Miniature Pulp Era Posters
Monday, July 20th, 2009
Back in August 2007 I posted a set of Miniature Victorian and Edwardian Posters which at the time didn’t really seem to get a lot of downloads or get any feedback. When I rebuilt the impworks website I almost left them out and the file got moved round late compared to some of the python scripts and what I thought were more popular pages.
A few days later I got a very nice, polite e-mail from a gentleman in Germany asking where the posters were because users on his gaming forums were asking for them. He also asked if I had anymore similar sets. I fixed the problem and I’m pleasantly surprised at the level of downloads the posters have been getting. So by way of a thank you for bringing the problem to my attention I’ve posted two more sets that I’d found the pictures for but never created the PDFs for.
This time there are a total of 130 different advertising posters from the pulp era covering dates from the 1920s and 1930s. A few may be from as late as the 1950s but I can’t be sure. I’ve split them roughly into US destinations and the rest of the world because there were roughly 60ish in each category and a sheet of Avery labels has space for 65. Hopefully they’ll be of some use to someone. You can download them, or download the original Victorian set, from my new Miniature Posters page.
Vue Python for Beginners Updated
Friday, July 3rd, 2009
I’ve added the first new stuff to impworks since putting the reworked site. My first video tutorial, an update to Vue Python for Beginners, showing how to run a Python script in Vue 7 Infinite.
Vue Texture Resizer
Thursday, November 27th, 2008
One perenial problem reported by Vue users is running short of memory. Part of the problem is that it is so easy to import objects that are loaded down with image based textures, bump maps, reflection maps etc. At the moment its a bit of a pain to hunt down all the textures, make copies and resize them based on how they are used in your scene. I was messing round with a Vue python script earlier to find all the image nodes in materials in a scene. This will form part of a new add on for Vue that I hope will be able to find all the images and then either let you move all of them to another directory to work on with your favourite graphics package or resize the copy without leaving Vue. Tomorrow I hope to have the time to put a wxPython wrapper around it to make it a bit frendlier than it is at the moment.
Vue Mass Convert 0.6
Friday, November 21st, 2008
I’ve just uploaded Mass Convert 0.6 for both Vue 6 Infinite and Vue 7 Infinite to my web site. The major improvement to this version is that when producing Vue’s VOB files it now produces a preview render of the object or if an appropriately named file is present on your computer with the objects converted it uses those instead. More details are included in the help menu when you run the script.
As with all my other Vue python scripts I’ll update the web page with details soon.
Cloud Builder Script Tested in Vue 7 Infinite

I’ve checked my Vue python script Cloud Builder in Vue 7 Infinite. No problems detected so just a small update to the Readme file to note the test.
Centre Finder 0.2
Sunday, November 9th, 2008
I’ve just updated and tested my Vue python script Centre Finder for Vue 7 Infinite. No significant changes just a little tweak so the cube it creates is name "Centre". The zip file on the Centre Finder page has been updated and I’ll update the web page itself later.
Refactoring the Restroom
Monday, July 21st, 2008
After spending a few hours refactoring python code on an ongoing (not yet ready for release) Vue python script I’m reminded of a cartoon that used to be on the wall of the Guild of Students projection room. Under a picture of Charlie Brown was the line "Working here is like wetting yourself in dark trousers. You get a warm feeling on the inside but no one else knows."
This wouldn’t be quite so apposite had the projection rooms not been ripped out to make way for first floor toilets so the Guild’s office sabatical officers and management didn’t have to walk all the way to the toilets in the basement.
Mass Preview Colour Change Script

Vue Replicate Scale Equal Steps Script
Monday, January 7th, 2008
This Python script for Vue Infinite can be run to equalise (or equalize for all my American readers) the scaling of replicated objects. First you replicate an object in the usual way in Vue (Using Edit -> Replicate) and then you run this script. If you applied a scale to any of the dimensions it will alter the way they are scaled. Vue’s normal scaling for replicate is to scale each object by applying the scale factor to the previous object created. This script sets the scaling to be uniform from one object to the next. This allows stepped pyramids and other similar structures to be quickly created.
I’ve tested in Vue 6 Infinte but it should work in Vue 5 Infinite, Vue 6 xStream and Vue 5 xStream too.

I was planning on releasing this script yesterday but had a small problem getting it to work which delays my lighting tutorial series restart by another week. Hopefully I’ll start again with the first four light rig next Monday.
