Twitter Weekly Updates for 2012-01-15

Sunday, January 15th, 2012

  • Watched last week's Sherlock just in time to watch this weeks #
  • I had to check twice if Sherlock not Watson was driving. So often the assistant drives on TV detective show. Wonder if this was deliberate? #
  • @cimota He's become a bit of a handy deus ex machina for all bureaucratic problems Sherlock runs into #
  • @cimota The risk is Mycroft becomes rather mundane. #
  • Enjoyed Sherlock – an interesting twist on the original. #
  • @Troppers Love those flowing skirts, corsets and dark makeup too but I think that look would suit Robert Downey, Jr's Sherlock more ;-) #
  • @Troppers Gatiss/Moffat take is different from the usual film/TV. Guy Ritchie takes an interesting different different approach #
  • @Troppers Absolutely: the Conan Doyle original is the best. I do like that recent versions have returned Watson to something more like CD. #
  • @JamesWallis What happened to all the Video rental stores? #
  • Headline "Ferry company in liquidation" if it hadn't been would they have used "Ferry company still Afloat"? #
  • @symatt But by telling us you may spread the need. Unfortunately there is no law of conservation of need to go to the loo. #
  • Why does the announcement of D&D 5th Edition make me want to hum Whitesnake's Here I Go Again? #
  • @symatt All the loos out of order or no loos? I suggest 5th Ed speculation as a cure. I speculate – 6 Stats: Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis & Cha! #
  • @SarahDarkmagic I'm fine but @symatt seems to need distacting from a bathroomless train journey #
  • @SarahDarkmagic THAC0. Just kidding. Streamlined, consistent, unambiguous rules & a focus on making D&D a fun social event to play. #
  • @TheAngryDM And at extremes if suits of armour, long swords, metal daggers exist or if civilisation has emerged from the Stone Age. #
  • @symatt Bit late but… How about THAC0 instead of THACO? #
  • @symatt You like tomato and I like tomahto, You Say THACO, I Say THAC0. Oh hangon we probably both say it the same way ;-) #
  • @SarahDarkmagic The mechanics of how different magic users "worked" differentiated them enough for me and the spells weren't common to all. #
  • Probably a bit sad but I just bought ImagineFX just for article on world builiding by James Gurney. #
  • @EmperorsElite £6 for four pages I want to read just seems a bit extravagent :-) #
  • @GeekyLyndsay lol. You could include the late night pregened bard from a game I wrote for a con – just one small slip and he had no spells. #
  • @DaddyDM @GeekyLyndsay @DaveTheGame @TriskalJM I shudders at the memory of players wanting to abuse kits in 2nd ed 20 years on. #
  • @simplychrista @symatt I found somewhere that did custom card printing after years of looking – cost effective if they made 10K copies :-( #
  • @EmperorsElite I get to use this for 3 hobbies so I can count it three times :-) #
  • @simplychrista @symatt I was told that the biggest expense is the cutter to cut the cards from the printed sheet. #
  • @GeekyLyndsay I always found it easier to DM gothic and fantasy because I don't read them a lot. Felt less like I was messing up than SF. #
  • @weareboy And I thought my old habbit of sketching on tracing film was expensive! #
  • @GeekyLyndsay Agreed. I find most of the settings jar – I tend to have strong radar for anachronism that spoils them :-( #
  • @simplychrista Special finished could be but otherwise inks & stock were nothing special. Cutters & boxing machines were specialised. #
  • @symatt Absolutely. Focus on what makes playing with others in a room is special, what no computer can do. Lead rather than follow. #
  • @KimKnox Are you sure you're not alternate universe you and in the one you came from our Kim is about to enjoy surprise chocolate? #
  • @KimKnox Yes. In a type 1 multiverse you only need to travel far enough to find parallel you with chocolate – around 10 to power 29 meters #
  • @KimKnox Meanwhile your type 1 multiverse twin 10 to the power 118 metres away is missing chocolate too :-( #
  • @SarahDarkmagic From shop owners I know it depressed it in the past but many collectors & fans like owning originals. Supply v Demand. #
  • Cheap motion capture anyone? RT @guardiantech: Kinect for Windows to launch in February http://t.co/6cizNhAT #
  • Brilliant – Amazon sends me a message from a seller but provides no obvious route to reply! #
  • Amazon seller has asked me to remove polite truthful review after selling damaged goods. Should I just ignore or contact Amazon? #
  • @jearle Or its a cynical piece of marketing to gather some data and then do what they want anyway. #
  • @call_me_salome You confess even without us resorting to the Comfy Chair? What kind of devilish trick is this? #
  • @simplychrista lol. If the Mayans could have been bothered to work out their calendar for another cycle they'd not be talking about it now. #
  • Just saw the Daily Star front cover in newsagents "Robbie Savaged by Hot Dogs …and he didn't relish it". Too bad jokes in one headline. #
  • @simplychrista My calendar only runs to the end of the year. We're all doomed. Doomed I tell you. Doomed! #
  • @simplychrista Don't worry my diary runs to Jan 6th 2013 so we get another 6 days after 2012 ;-) #
  • @sizemore Are there marauding packs of feral unpaid interns? Will he uncover a stash of expense claims? Does the speaker look like Blofeld? #
  • @symatt So tempted to retweet that just so you can be all excitted again :-) #
  • @RPGadvocate Is it so big you could pin a tail on it and call it an elephant? #
  • RT @SpringaldJack: Male fantasy author strikes fantasy heroine cover poses. – This is pretty great. http://t.co/JNxOWVCT via @GeekyLyndsay #
  • @Fantasticmaps Nice post. I'm having flashbacks to drawing isometric designs at school lol. #
  • 3D Printing coming closer and closer to the living room http://t.co/8BedjsLv #
  • Interesting Publisher Rules of Thumb on the end of this Pelgrane Press blog post http://t.co/xC1iBRCA #
  • @simonjrogers Normally I don't when asked but I thought the rules of thumb were interesting and worth sharing :-) #
  • Just back from Girl with the Dragon Tattoo enjoyed it. Sadly I inferred who dunnit from two early moments. #
  • @DanDiplo lol. I'd not read the book or seen the original film although I'm tempted by the book now I've seen this film. #
  • Is it really Thursday? #
  • @sandchigger You're telling me its Friday Eve already too! That means I wasted Thursday Eve and Thursday Double Eve too. #
  • Overheard by near busker: Did his business plan read: buy cheap guitar, cute puppy, piece of string, g̶u̶i̶t̶a̶r̶ ̶l̶e̶s̶s̶o̶n̶s̶ ? #
  • @rodluc2001 Hi Luca. Thanks for the freebie :-) #
  • @KimKnox I've lost a lot of time reading the surveys at http://t.co/8jM7eb7F lately. If you've not seen it you'll lose even more ;-) #
  • I'd missed that the new Open Eye gallery had opened think I'll wander down and take a look at this exhibition next week http://t.co/QhMKFu2m #
  • @DaddyDM Thanks for the #ff – Any gaming this weekend? #
  • @simplychrista Thanks for the #ff have a great weekend :-) #
  • This reminds me of those plastic puzzles from the 1970s just on a larger scale: Facet by Bloomming http://t.co/FUyOf8Ti #
  • @Wizards_DnD Having started playing when 2nd ed came out & having played every ed except the very first. D&D3 for cleaning up the mechanics #
  • And thus another working week ends. #
  • @rodluc2001 Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • Happy Birthday! RT @SFSFW: 20 Years and counting… The SFSFW was 20 on the 12th January! #

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2012-01-08

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

  • @simplychrista Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • RIP Ronald Searle #
  • I now have a new windswept look. #
  • @simplychrista Join the rest of us with the new year windswept look – its what all the happening people are doing ;-) #
  • If I had a do and it was called Toto I'd have had the perfect quote after the last gust of wind… #
  • listening to "Mission Impossible TV Series Plot Music – Lalo Shifrin" ♫ http://t.co/EzQItFR2 #
  • listening to "Billy Bragg – Moving the Goalposts" ♫ http://t.co/RGwiem5e #
  • A little shredding can be oddly satisfying and relaxing. I doubt it is if you think the FBI is about to knock on your door ;-) #
  • @Stigmatyr lol. Just the sort of documents an unscrupulous competitor could potentially exploit if they don't mind crawling through bins… #
  • @call_me_salome @Stigmatyr Da. Do. Da. Do. Da. Do. #
  • @Stigmatyr @call_me_salome I destroyed the evidence of cake. I eat all of it. Now I need to exercise to hide the evidence of the evidence. #
  • @johnbellwrites Thanks for the #WW :-) #
  • @call_me_salome @Stigmatyr Did you have Wheelie Bins imitaiting tumble weed last night? #
  • @DaddyDM lol. Our office is just in Liverpool's Cavern Quarter. #
  • @call_me_salome @Stigmatyr I started back into it yesterday but I'm falling off the wii balance board again tonight for pizza & a movie #
  • @Stigmatyr @call_me_salome So long as you get all the trace evidence (and by trace evidence I mean crumbs). #
  • @DaddyDM Saddly it was a London station putting on a dodgy accent rather than the genuine Lime Street :-( #
  • @Fantasticmaps Nice. And simpler than my first model and render them in Vue Infinite then post process and draw over the render ;-) #
  • @Fantasticmaps For those mountains drawing it is simpler & the results nicer. On the flip side I can easily produce perspectives. #
  • @Aldric_Newberry To quote a microbiologist I know "use by dates – because botulism is tasteless and odorless" #
  • Why are adverts full of wimpy cover versions? First it was a wet version of Kiss Crazy Nights. Now its Steve Winwood Higher love :-( #
  • @Domikko Make that three bad covers in ads. Cheapskates :-( #
  • @symatt The way its blowing out there the whole UK may all end up in Kansas + bits of Oklahoma & Nebraska #
  • I wouldn't be surprised if the shipping forecast areas have been shuffled into a new order by tomorrow morning. #
  • RIP Bob Holness #
  • @paulbaalham Saddly so. Look at UK trends on twitter and its full of related topics :-( #
  • @DaddyDM Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • @simplychrista Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • @DaddyDM Not this weekend – still recovering from late finish of New Years Eve Cthulhu ;-) #
  • @GameCouch lol. Last time I cooked a curry my kitchen was aromatic for three days :-) #
  • @EmperorsElite Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • @xtamsynx It does look interesting doesn't it :-) #
  • @DanDiplo Love the hair :-) #
  • @darkdwarf I'd forgotten those but yes they were bad too :-( #
  • @DanDiplo Plain or with a pattern? #
  • @DanDiplo Probably the most humane end to them being turned into a cloak then #
  • Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol Movie Review http://t.co/upClCnXz but is it really Mission Impossible or just a rubber mask? #
  • @Jennisodes Its a time dilation caused by a localized distortion of the space time continuum related to the inverse effect on a Sunday. #
  • @simplychrista Nice :-) #
  • @Troppers I'm trying to map those to the programmers food groups. Toast=Pizza, Tea=Cola, Marmite = Beer? #
  • Morning world. Having done stuff I'm now doing as little as possible. #
  • @KimKnox That problem – I'm measuring reference material for FG by the foot #

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2012-01-01

Sunday, January 1st, 2012

  • Happy Christmas! #
  • Surprising number of people surprised to be caught without tickets on the train today. Personally I'd rather pay than be left at Stockport. #
  • @simplychrista A very late thankyou for the #ff #
  • @MoonWolf95 A very late thankyou for the #ff #
  • Spell checker really wants me to change Stockport to Stockpot lol #
  • Managed to write almost 4000 words on the train today and only one serious accidental deletion on the shaky bit over the Pennines #
  • @CODAPUBLISHER I'm figuring on around 20K for that piece of which around 15K are now done :-) #
  • @simplychrista I had to stop when the guard got annoyed with me writing up her sleeve ;-) #
  • Diving shoes and a couple of sandbags might help with the wind. A suit of armour might help with the shoppers. #
  • Happy New Year! #

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2011-12-25

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

  • @oldknickers At least you didn't plug it into the cactus :-) #
  • @simplychrista Toucan and Preen or Robin Cousins #
  • @cha0tic I just can't imagine the brain dead brainstorming that came up with that idea #
  • @simplychrista If the weather report I just saw holds up they'll get plenty of opportunity. #
  • @Ulyverse I was wondering but was too polite to ask ;-) #
  • @Ulyverse I can do pedantic if you want but its far too cold right now ;-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 Thanks :-) I'd return the compliment but it seems to only want to offer me Parking or Anime as topics you influence me on lol #
  • @cimota We need a word for that – I had something similar when starting PC and it said "16,423 updates to apply do not turn off until done" #
  • @symatt Any people get a haircut applied as an effect by the printer ;-) Seriously this explains it better than I could http://t.co/erCCo8Em #
  • @SteveHills I've called in a strike by an orbital mass driver on your location. Look up now & you should see the asteroid just about to hit #
  • Analysis of Bifrost survey now winging its way to Steve Blease for Ragnarok. #
  • @Dicecreator Very cool and a Ftaghn Christmas to you to :-) #
  • @deadorcs What formula did you us? #
  • @deadorcs Cool. Will you have lights and/or tinsel as well this year? #
  • @Danacea Good piece. Not hugely surprised that WH Smiths are in a lot of bother in the vote. #
  • Drag and drop upload in WordPress is pretty cool #
  • The Cold Soap Window Sill Steam Phenomenon photographs http://t.co/pS3Rsay2 #
  • @Troppers Onions, Carrots, Salt , Pepper & Herbs (Bay Leaf, Parsley). Garlic. Possibly leeks, celery, mushrooms, fennel, tomatoe #
  • @Troppers I had to shorten the original list to fit twitter. Garlic is very much an if you like it in stock. #
  • @MoonWolf95 I had to add it as something you're influential on. #
  • @Troppers I'd not put gammon and garlic together personally #
  • @MoonWolf95 Just Klout being weird and not getting the obvious stuff while picking out random stuff. #
  • @Troppers Cool. Onion and salt are the key ingredients and have been at least as far back as the ancient Egyptians. #
  • I expected Chicken Curry with Cardamom to taste more of Cardamom still it was pleasant and not fussy to make. #
  • The Glasgow of Young James Herriot seems to be a ghost town with no trams & barely any other transport in sight but enjoyable anyway. #
  • Is it just me or does pretty much everything sent mail order at the moment come with vouchers for money off wine? #
  • @undercoverman The weather this year it was like completely crazzzzy man! Especially the rain of petit fours on July 42! #
  • @realsimjoy So far I have resisted. Although I have a nice bottle of rioca stashed away for New Years Eve :-) #
  • @realsimjoy So far vouchers: one for a bit off, one for free delivery over £100, one for £40 towards a 12 bottle case and one like yours. #
  • @greywulf And the Cliff Diving Award goes to… Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Splat! #
  • @cultauthor At the end can you do that laugh he does? #
  • @STARBURST_MAG I'll probably see at least one or two of them but the trailers make me want to say none of the above. #
  • @symatt I've been snacking on trail mix today. All that dried fruit is healthy right. That means no calories right ;-) #
  • @xtamsynx A slow download could be at the other end – especially now for smaller websites 1 user with a good connection can swamp a server #
  • Vue 10 PLE and Trial Versions now available http://t.co/kTrjz5AX #
  • @xtamsynx Is it slow compared to what you're used to getting? #
  • @call_me_salome I thought you were a bot but if you're saying your a man I'll not be upset ;-) #
  • Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows my review with spoilers http://t.co/O7hvkfyY #
  • @call_me_salome My GP tells me no man should wear jeans that tight. They can cause problems with the digestion. #
  • @call_me_salome lol. In '78 I was too young to understand the significance of Olivia Newton John being stitched into those jeans for Grease. #
  • More interesting than more Ugg boots RT @call_me_salome: Surreal shoes of the day. http://t.co/8yeskBtf #
  • Email spam way down but 864 spam comments to my blog since 5 December – 120+ for Ugg Boots? Not one made it past akismet :-) #
  • @ehlanakovas Not attractive but different :-) #
  • Goodnight clouds. Goodnight sky. Goodnight twitter. Goodnight world. #
  • @xtamsynx I'd be tempted to talk to my ISP then. Years ago Orange broke mine by putting their gear into diagnostic mode :-( #
  • Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows my review with spoilers http://t.co/O7hvkfyY #
  • @xtamsynx Glad you got it sorted :-) #
  • @Thisangelbites That would be unfortunate :-( #
  • @jearle Google need to open it up both ways with APIs or its in danger of becoming another casualty of their wanderings into social media. #
  • @GRIMACHU Oy! Leave it out I was just starting to drop off nicely then. #
  • Spending the day coding C# always leaves me feeling far more like falling asleep than coding PHP. #
  • @jearle I know. Yet somehow Facebook do and accept that making money on a % is better than a walled garden that fail. #
  • @Ghostwoods lol #
  • Personally I'll take the brass trio busking near the office over the usual guitarist with a backing tape but I seem to be in a minority here #
  • Finishing the last day at work for 2011 with a bit of WordPress. Nice. #
  • @Troppers Depends – did you speak with your mouth full? #
  • @MoonWolf95 Just a guess from but that shape will have a lower centre of gravity than a cube so less chance of rolling on landing. #
  • @MoonWolf95 Plus its tried and tested for 40 odd years so most of the kinks have been worked out of that design making it safer + cheaper #
  • @Thisangelbites That looks rather good – I might be near one of their shops I can see a purchasing accident happening ;-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 You're on a 2 year mission to Mars on the way there IIS has an accident – now you can't get home. #
  • @MoonWolf95 Plus the assemble in orbit idea is nice but I'll bet quality & cost are cheaper when done on the ground even with launch cost. #
  • @MoonWolf95 Long term yes but the number of manned space flights is still barely out of the early flight era. Stick with what we know. #
  • @MoonWolf95 Or you get overly enthusiastic unrealistic programmes. Not just space read Neville Shute's Slide Rule for airship engineering #
  • For the last time in 2011. Home time :-) #
  • @DanDiplo Ask the MP for Cannock Chase in Staffordshire ;-) #
  • Something tells me the driver of the shiny red Ferrari didn't buy it for sitting in a traffic jam in a less fashionable area of Liverpool. #
  • @Ulyverse I shocked some colleagues by not only knowing who William Orbit is but having some CDs of his music. #
  • Listening to the @TheUkes cover of Teenage Dirtbag http://t.co/ThqKJWFa #
  • @Troppers Trouble is the one in my head from the books beats all of the actors. Although everyone except RM gets part of him right. #
  • @Troppers I wouldn't want to over promote them. But the novels are worth a look and the short stories include some intriguing oddities. #
  • @Troppers Personally Dr No as its close to the Connery film, Casino Royale as that's the Bond of the books before any polishing… #
  • @Troppers …+ The Living Daylights just because the whole of novella is 5 min of the film but read others first as its not like the films. #
  • @call_me_salome He's behind you. (I could say yes but its panto season) #
  • Happy Christmas http://t.co/gskEf6is (this year's virtual Christmas Card) #

The Cold Soap Window Sill Steam Phenomenon

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

Close up of water drops on bar of soap

In the winter a slightly odd phenomenon sometimes happens when I do the rather mundane task of doing the washing up. When its cold outside and I fill the bowl with hot water steam produces tiny water drops all over the bar of soap on my window sill. I’ve normally only seen this at night but a few times I’ve found its happened late in the day. Tonight it was light enough to get a few photographs before the drops succumbed to gravity and ran into the soap dish.

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2011-12-18

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

  • Back to making notes for some proper writing later… #
  • @Ghostwoods Its a slippery slope. Its 1 v. cute kitten picture then its more kittens finally its "Hi I'm @Ghostwood & I'm a kitten addict" #
  • Much tutting from old dears on bus – woman in loose jeans with no belt & little yappy dog juggling to keep both from getting away. #
  • Emma Thompson is a MIB? I can see that but if Dougal and Bill Oddie don't cameo as aliens I may be upset ;-) http://t.co/RAzrl0GO #
  • @sandchigger lol #
  • My sitting room had been flitter free for 6 months but after tonight's card witting there are trace levels of shinny flitter everywhere #
  • @Troppers Following the logic one step too far… if you're using your Telly as a Christmas tree what are you using as a TV? #
  • @sandchigger But if you had been considering it you'd have been a complete sucker ;-) #
  • Six WordPress sites updated without a hitch #
  • My first blog post for awhile in which I say rude things about The Thing with some spoilers probably http://t.co/Kt6eWTTF #
  • My review of The Thing from last night now with added bonus of @Drunken_Goblin response http://t.co/Kt6eWTTF #
  • @Drunken_Goblin I was just using your comment as a cheap excuse for promoting my website again ;-) #
  • @Drunken_Goblin Seriously though thanks for taking the time to comment :-) #
  • Excellent works night out at the Olive Press. #
  • #uksnow L2 3/10 #
  • #uksnow L2 4/10 #
  • #uksnow L2 2/10 #
  • #uksnow L2 0/10 having turned to #ukrain and #ukslush and #ukseagullsthatarelookingforatasteofhumanflesh #
  • @sandchigger Doing my bit for http://t.co/BILRjheG crowd sourced snow reporting for UK. Did see some impressive Texas snow reports last year #
  • I predict a flurry of LEGOlas jokes given the Lego Hobbit / LotR announcement #
  • @sandchigger 4/10 was how heavily it was falling. 4/10 isn't a blizzard but still pretty heavy. #
  • @wartrader lol #
  • @sandchigger Thankfully its not been settling because otherwise the hill out of Liverpool can become quite dangerous. #
  • @DaddyDM Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • @DaddyDM I'm not sure how useful #ff are. I do think it does sometimes lead to a new follower but without a sudden surge its hard to say. #
  • @xtamsynx Could be worse. 4 friends of mine agreed to meet in a bar but all went to different bars with the same name lol #
  • @TheAngryDM Those & figures were the start of the slippery slope. It was cool when they did tokens on weetabix for the first lego village… #
  • @TheAngryDM … I eat Weetabix everyday for months when I was five or six but I got all the village sets :-) #
  • @TheAngryDM lol Weetabix is a breakfast cereal. Consistency & taste of crisp or soggy cardboard http://t.co/41isErYU #
  • @TheAngryDM An acquired taste that was my breakfast staple for 18 years but I can't imagine eating it now lol #
  • @xtamsynx Sorry. Thankfully I wasn't part of that debacle. Pubs should be like fictional characters – never give 2 the same name #
  • @TheAngryDM Just give them bad advice – "take the craft skill its essential to character survival in my setting". Soon they'll stop asking #
  • Home time :-) #
  • Lego LotR: One Stud to rule them all, One Stud to find them, One Stud to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. #
  • @simplychrista Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • @xyleanne69 And people in houses without central heating in this weather #

  • @simplychrista You've been busy then :-) #
  • @simplychrista Cool. I struggle to keep the idea for one picture going at a time. #
  • Finished reconstructing FoGE from PDF / DTP file to word to send to Mr Blease… #
  • Brian Blessed interview on BBC1 wonderful distraction from weather outside. #
  • @Troppers I made it to the couch but thanks to Brian Blessed I'm in danger of becoming a potato. #
  • @Troppers The hail was fierce here earlier but the sky is blue now so I might brave the outdoors too. #

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2011-12-11

Sunday, December 11th, 2011

  • Warm mackerel sandwiches for lunch. #
  • Please note my last tweet has two purposes… 1 to swamp historians in the future with data when they go through twitter. #
  • 2 to upset stand up comics who dislike twitter because its all about what we eat and simultaneously to keep them in easy material. #
  • The sky is so grey here its like one in a 1970s photo of an angular modernist factory in the USSR. Welcome to Greyistan Comrades! #
  • Vicious hail outside glad I don't have to go out today. #
  • @simonjrogers Are you Being Serviced? 1970s SitCom setting with double XP for double entendres #dramasystem #
  • I'm blaming this cold for my utter incompetence at post to twitter. I've got SocialMediaFlu ;-) #
  • @simonjrogers I might just have to see if I can work that up. A few years ago & I can pretty much see Jay running that in Valk for the title #
  • Excellent word resource for writers of historical novels, players of CoC & other #rpgs The Guardian 1928 Style Guide http://t.co/Pdmvdot0 #
  • @DanDiplo Only once a month if I'm lucky. Wait till At the Mountains of Madness turns into a CoC film franchise ;-) #
  • Man asked for a "ten pound orange" in shop. Is that price or weight? Reminded me of The Two Ronnies http://t.co/UvUnfvZl #
  • @Troppers On a scale where 1 is heated them from a can and put on a plate to Gourmet hot dogs in hand made rolls as 10 where are you? ;-) #
  • @Troppers Pasta & cheese – sounds like your heading into areas of the scale that involve the square root of -1 and other impossible numbers! #
  • @DanDiplo I resisted sending pretty much that tweet when I saw those pictures earlier ;-) #
  • @symatt Am I allowed to use a dice roll to decide ;-) #
  • @symatt Sometime you have to ask – what would Sheldon Cooper do. Roll 1d6: 1-2 No 3-6: Yes. Roll=4. So Yes I missed you today :-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 And in less than 140 characters you sum up why I not only don't play RoleMaster but have virtually none in my #rpg library :-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 I like to improvise my crits on the fly. Keeps the old GMing juices flowing ;-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 First #rpg I ever played. A friend used raw potatoes as props for experimental happiness pills… #
  • @MoonWolf95 Not enough flesh ;-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 lol – that wasn't a challenge ;-) #
  • More note making than writing tonight. Note have a nice way of expanding into sentences & paragraphs Now for something different. Night. #
  • @KimKnox Have you got the shakes yet? ;-) #
  • RIP Harry Morgan http://t.co/CuUyhSGy #

  • @ianf @DanDiplo @jacquar @richeym *Cough* Mobile and Accessibility Testing *Cough* #
  • @ryanag123 Good job you didn't go for Lu-Kthu to scale ;-) #

  • @Danacea So you got a preview of this year's Doctor Who Christmas special then ;-) #
  • Weather like this makes being able to do stuff online doubly great. #
  • @MoonWolf95 The snow will have to fight the wind, rain and hail to reach the ground tonight! #
  • @richard_iorio A genuinely classic font :-) #
  • If nothing else this is worth reading just for the sentence "any of us can commit acts of journalism" http://t.co/fcvGZjap #
  • @simplychrista Thanks for the #ff Have a great weekend :-) #
  • @DaddyDM Thanks for the #ff Have a great weekend :-) #
  • And so another working week winds towards Friday night and the weekend :-) #

  • @MsBorok They're renovating the Commonwealth Institute in Kensington, London #
  • @ianpearse Its really good to see them bringing the Commonwealth Institute back into use. #
  • @symatt Maybe a bit obvious but how about Elves or if auto correct goes bad Elvis Elves #countersketch #
  • @MsBorok My pleasure you can see more about it here http://t.co/ipLGAmwt #
  • Its one of those days when the cold gets into your bones #

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2011-12-04

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

  • @andrewkenrick Only single rotor so not Chinooks – thinks they might have been Merlin HC3s #
  • @call_me_salome You're saying he's Bagpuss then? #
  • Exploring Blender's particle systems to see if I can use them in a Vue scene made with Daz Studio #
  • Hitchcock never could resist getting a cameo in RT @simplychrista: Send a grumpy Hitchcock holiday card : http://t.co/dpMuEdZW #
  • @simplychrista Hmm all those fat men in Dickensian Christmas cards – how many were Alfred Hitchcock cameos? #
  • @Ulyverse It wont help you'll be just as annoyed that you've spent a load of time tweeting utter rubbish #
  • @simplychrista Odd how they are called Dickensian but I've never spotted a workhouse or Fagan in any of them ;-) #
  • Making elf more alien/supermodel thin got past uncanny valley problems by being less realistic. #
  • Adding barely visible particle system to improve look of render makes it more realistic. #
  • I'm not going to try and work out how making one thing less and one thing more realistic can make a scene better and just do the lighting. #
  • @MoonWolf95 The little things make all the difference sometimes – I'm tweaking the lighting even though only I'll know what I've done #
  • @xyleanne69 Does that make my favourite Mexican bean dish a potential imposter? Should I have it followed to find out where its really from? #
  • @MoonWolf95 Absolutely. Although I prefer it when a picture is easier to get to work than this one has been lol #
  • @MoonWolf95 lol Takes tens of thousands of years for photons to get to the surface of the sun so its not that fast either ;-) #
  • My Cthulhu is dusty and has no care label. Is he machine washable? Worried that spin cycle might wake him from his slumber… #
  • @MoonWolf95 Only really energetic ones on steroids made in the lab not ones from novas crossing interstellar space so far :-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 One theory I heard is that the lab made Neutrinos on Steroids may have been taking shortcuts through higher dimensions. #
  • @MoonWolf95 @symatt And pantomime is peculiarly British. A friend who works in theatres had to brief a NY theatre boss on them recently. #
  • @MoonWolf95 Thanks I'll give them a go :-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 Have you seen the escape route for a problem on the pad? Death slide to armored car might not be wheel chair friendly :-( #
  • @symatt Your players must be far more with it than mine ;-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 I'd rather try and explain Rab C. Nesbitt #
  • @cha0tic A friend I used to crew with at Uni used to get Polish Spirit which can go to 96% abv from a wine and spirit shop #
  • @MoonWolf95 Have you had the 2nd half of 2011 series including "Let's Kill Hitler" I can't say a lot without risking River Song "Spoilers!" #
  • @MoonWolf95 I think you're up to date but wouldn't want to accidentally drop a spoiler. If you are apart from Christmas special nothing new #
  • @MoonWolf95 We get that with US shows all the time too :-( #
  • @MoonWolf95 Which is even more peculiar as they don't show it here. #
  • @symatt That battle I'm keeping out of – I'm specializing in the ugly or peculiar at the moment lol #
  • @MoonWolf95 Just post it at certain famous CG sites and see if they ban it as being naked or not ;-) #
  • @symatt I think @greywulf is having his tea and staying well out of this if he has any sense ;-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 Could she be less naked ;-) #
  • @cha0tic Not sure if its still true but I think the high strength ones can only be had from specialist shops. Might be a special licence? #
  • @greywulf @symatt I'm just sticking with the only doing ugly at the moment & leaving this to you & @MoonWolf95 ;-) #
  • @symatt @greywulf @MoonWolf95 Are you going to put one of your counter sketches into the fray? #
  • Email newsletter offering whitepaper entitled "Preparing for Cyber Monday" just arrived. Guess they didn't read it themselves… #
  • @undercoverman The lung to body mass ratio is something like 3 parts body mass to 20 parts lung. Slightly better than a fog horn ;-) #
  • @Troppers In reply 1. Bleh 2. Without Marc Warren: a relief he really needed Adrian Lester to make his performance work (imo) ;-) #
  • @greywulf @symatt @GiniKoch @MoonWolf95 Just to be clear are we doing Ugly or Beautiful now lol #
  • @greywulf @GiniKoch @impworks @MoonWolf95 The prize is not embarrassing ourselves publicly ;-) #
  • @impworks @symatt @GiniKoch @MoonWolf95 Think #SexySunday might be taken #
  • @Troppers Ok I'll give you that. Similarly the loss of Jaime Murray not quite replaced. Bleh = Have picked up cold and am feeling a bit #
  • @Troppers As BBC shows go it has always managed a high level of eye candy for all genders, preferences and ages :-) #
  • @Troppers Ah yes they pretty much had me hooked by casting Robert Vaughn. #
  • @Troppers Similarly NCIS with David McCallum & the line "What did Ducky look like when he was younger?" Gibbs responds, "Illya Kuryakin." #
  • @undercoverman Absolutely. Physics defying in the best sort of ways :-) #
  • @Troppers Once NCIS worked out it was a relaxed version CSI with jokes, pop culture & a cast who could carry that it became very watchable #
  • Just for giggles – lets try Daz Studio 4 + Blender hair simulation then see how Vue copes #
  • @richeym Well that would put a dent in the institution of marriage – or at least guests at the ceremony #
  • @TheAngryDM From memory its 1000 a day but rolling on an hourly basis. #
  • @Restartkeromais You'd be far better off asking at Daz's forums – I'm only recently converted from Poser to use it #
  • Gotta call it a night before this cold turns into man flu. #
  • @MoonWolf95 Sleep worked :-) #
  • Torrential rain here before. You could tell it was bad only one smoker braved cold & rain sat outside Costa under an umbrella. #
  • Flier delivery just came through door including Pizza menu and Zumba sessions – synergistic advertising? #
  • @MoonWolf95 You only got a ton of rain? We got so much we could barely see across the road at one point earlier ;-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 I can see why you'd do that. It stopped raining before I left work but my trousers were soaked from walking down the street :-( #
  • @MoonWolf95 Cool Tank :-) Have you seen the sports car model from Johnny English 2 that Rowan Atkinson was doing 50mph on? #
  • @MoonWolf95 Its patchy but he did do most of the wheel chair driving himself – hard to hide a stunt double on a wheelchair lol #
  • @MoonWolf95 Surely they should be more worried about the flame throwers? ;-) #
  • In 1911 Police stormed St George's Plateau during Strike. In 2011 Police vans fill it preparing to escort Union march. #
  • @jearle Stop knocking the Royal Wedding – it was a great opportunity to get an extra Call of Cthulhu session in this year ;-) #
  • Noisy but apparently well organised strike march is going past outside. #
  • March has snaked past us now – must have gone on for a good half hour. #
  • @Troppers That would be what happens when the Department of Stealth and Obfuscations goes on strike – ninjas sneakily marching in protest #
  • @Ghostwoods Cool two people confused with images from different parts of one tweet. March is one of those slinky spring months ;-) #
  • Good Q for @guardianstyle RT: @GRIMACHU When describing something as 'spartan', rather than referring to the people, is it capitalised? #
  • The Gade, the Bartók and the Ugolini #classicalmovies #
  • @cogspa What u gonna do? #
  • @call_me_salome Hello. lol. Methodologically inspired but quite likely to cause misunderstanding :-) #
  • @call_me_salome @GRIMACHU If you can't be left alone to play with twitter nicely by yourselves we'll just have to turn it off till you can. #
  • @call_me_salome @GRIMACHU I'd send you a copy of the Spotters Guide to Mythical creatures to help with identification but it is mythical. #
  • @cogspa With no Monkey Wrench you ain't gonna fix that gastropod! #
  • @Dicecreator Sorry to hear that :-( #
  • @richard_iorio Only if the numerological calculation of Caesars' name used to slander him on the quiet in ancient times bothers you ;-) #
  • 1978 Taito Space Invaders! RT @DesignMuseum13 classics added to Collection includes M1 sign, AK-47 Rifle + Sony Walkman http://t.co/fiG20JbA #
  • @DanDiplo Odd that there is no commenting on that article. Danger of owners of other machines pointing out how they outsold BBC ;-) #
  • @call_me_salome Does that mean you have to look after the death of rats? #
  • @DanDiplo Which loses all the local news and other personalisation I had set up on the old one :-( #
  • @DanDiplo I don't disagree it was influential but the BBC seem to be a bit revisionist in their coverage of 80s home computers #
  • @call_me_salome A Death of Rats wearing trainers would have real problems with rats passing in nightclubs where trainers aren't allowed? #
  • @JMdoubleU The real question is Nature or Nurture ;-) #
  • @mdlachlan Rich Hall's rant about him on the BBC4 documentary about road movies the other night was unexpected and brilliant. #
  • @guardianstyle Thanks :-) #
  • Back to work. Time to shorten the to do list. #
  • So now the Google Icon opens a menu I can't see a single click back to my Gmail inbox when I've expanded a few labels. Excellent UI work :-( #
  • @richeym A christmas tree appeared in the NBH foyer today #
  • @xtamsynx Within a tightly defined set of circumstances – but not for wearing out shopping to the local supermarket #
  • Two police horses just went down my street causing the first traffic jam I've seen on it ever. #
  • @DanDiplo Over heard someone on the bus call them Love Films Hate Users earlier… #
  • @DaddyDM Thanks for the #ff Nice hat :-) #
  • @symatt One little bit of tweet madness has a lot to answer for ;-) Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • @guardianstyle How do you cope with the band "The The"? #
  • @call_me_salome I think its because most ubergeeks have eaten too many – a sort of flabby beefcake ;-) #
  • @MoonWolf95 Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • @call_me_salome Most full time ubergeeks consider the major food groups to be junk food, pizza, chocolate and caffeine ;-) #
  • @simplychrista Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • If I was a D&D monster I'd be a 1 HD Medium Ooze with a special area Poison attack of VickVapo Rub found in Duvet terrain alignment bleh! #
  • @ianf When there is a code error would they catch it with a #fail ? #
  • @Troppers Was it Omid Djalili who played Terrorist #3 I think he had routine about that when he was 1st on TV or I could be confused #
  • Tip: Watch Saturday Kitchen double speed – the music goes from relaxed Sat morning to pumping spy show thrills and spills #
  • @xtamsynx Happy Birthday and Gratz :-) #
  • It was tipping it down when I went to the shops. Now I'm in the dry the sun comes out. Still no waiting in shops so rain not all bad :-) | #
  • @K23Detectives Shame you didn't get a £1 reward for each one #
  • @thedeadone Are you staging the tortoise remake of the bike scene from The Great Escape? #
  • @sciamannata Paints I used to use could be used on fabric (I never did) had a fixer available. Could something like that help? #

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

  • Computer, peripherals, computer desk, cables all disconnected cleaned, hoovered and then reassembled. I need a sit down. #
  • @Troppers Vicks infused lasagne sounds very Heston Blumenthal but not in a nice way ;-) #
  • Internet connection mysteriously went down @ the same time as yesterday. No flock of BT vans trying to fix it today. Now back up :-) #
  • @Troppers Hope you're feeling better soon. Better living through Vicks is one slogan I hope to never see catch on. #
  • @symatt Should I ask what you've been doing for 12 hours? #
  • @symatt Ow 12 hours of that – no wonder some of the ticket office staff look fed up! #
  • Interesting Parsian inspired curry for dinner in a good way: Chicken with Apricots (from Madhur Jaffrey's Curry Easy p91) #
  • @DanDiplo New Scientist had a piece about Decaptcha an academic project to break them. Only reCAPTHCA was found to be reliable against bots. #

  • Wondering if there is a book about at what can be seen along the 86 bus routes of different UK towns & cities. But not very seriously. #
  • @ehlanakovas lol. Just one of those random things that starts at work: in this case several people have used the 86 in different places #
  • Did Adobe have the most pointless brainstorming session ever when they came up with new features for Photoshop Elements 10? #
  • @ianf I bet they sweated over that for a measurable number of seconds before pretending to be working for the rest of the afternoon ;-) #
  • @Troppers Sorry he's completely besotted with his Virgin box if the ads are anything to go by. He only has eyes for Tivo. #

  • @symatt Did you get it sorted in the end or did it end up going like this… http://t.co/eM8wIvUK ? #
  • Why didn't anyone tell me about @guardianstyle before? Also pleased to see that @grauniadstyle exists too :-) #
  • @KimKnox On a scale where 1 is bad kittens & 10 is A Rickman playing Hans Gruber & the Sheriff of Nottingham playing with kittens how bad? #
  • Emailed a website that they may have ModSecurity misconfigured: 1st time at site it says I'm making too many request but displays on reload! #
  • @KimKnox 11 is so old hat now. E veryone goes to 11 or gives 110%. Stand out from the crowd – turn it up to 15 :-) #
  • Who would have guessed you lot would be so keen on @guardianstyle and @grauniadstyle ? ;-) #
  • Over the last 20 years Liverpool has gotten rid of market stalls because they were a nuisance to pedestrians and replaced them with… #
  • … seasonal street markets with twice as many stalls to be a nuisance to pedestrians. Still the tat they sell is different and festive. #
  • @symatt Its been improvised from a chocolate bar foil, some liquid nitrogen and a copy of time magazine? #
  • @Troppers If the Guardian story is what you're talking about – maybe they could build a new Stadium below ground level to hide it? :-( #
  • New word of the day: Messuage #
  • @xtamsynx I was thinking blown away here – but pretty similar result. #
  • Is the Metro using one of Nick Clegg's ex-Neets army for Photoshopping? White outline & missing arm http://t.co/ljmj3uX2 #
  • BBC experimental TV controlled Dalek in your home. Next robot Punch & Judy to replace TV for real 3D experience? http://t.co/MKiLpRX7 #
  • @johnlambshead Now be fair: its not technically slavery they just want to bring back Indentured Servitude and the Feudal system ;-) #
  • A rather manic driver just overtake double line of traffic then reverse wrong way up 1 way street park on double yellow… #
  • @Ghostwoods Annoyingly decided not to when friends said they weren't who now are. Train would now be £70 so not really worth it :-( #
  • @KimKnox Good luck. Heavens just opened here and it doesn't look at all pleasant outside :-( #
  • @KimKnox Good luck. #
  • @simplychrista Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • @vmdolphin Thanks for the #ff :-) #
  • Its Friday evening. Yeh! My head hurts. Boo! #
  • @SarahDarkmagic Worth a trip to the cinema when it arrives then? We only have the muppets Orange advert here at the moment :-( #
  • @RobCornellBooks Its the start of it for us in the UK. Last two years the Internet has spread it across the Atlantic #
