Thirteen Things about Mark Caldwell’s flight in a 1944 Dakota

  1. Excitement – I was like a kid on Christmas morning I woke up at 5AM
  2. Nerves – These hit me on the way to the airport. It was my first time going up in a plane so being a bit nervous on the way was to be expected
  3. Loud – Not as loud as I’d thought from watching films but certainly not quiet

  4. Basic – No frills but not in the modern sense
  5. Unpressurised – who needs a pressurised cabin anyway
  6. Aroma – There was a slight but distinct smell to the plane

  7. Spacious Leg Room – I’m reasonably tall and I didn’t feel cramped in my seat

  8. View – Thankfully the rain held off and the views of Liverpool, Runcorn and the Wirral were stunning
  9. Wow
  10. Priceless – It was worth every penny, even the car park fee which was devised by a mobster on their day off

  11. Soft landing – You wouldn’t have spilt a drink if you’d had a glass in your hand during the landing
  12. Time distorting – It didn’t really feel like only fifteen minutes in the air

  13. Indescribable and Unforgettable – words and pictures can’t really describe it

  14. Cool

I’m planning on doing a TT of 13 other people’s favourite posts from their blogs as a follow up to my list of my own last week. If you leave a link to yours in the comments this week I’ll add it to the selection I’ve got to pick from.

I'm so late but life sucks lately and I've been so busy and confused:(

Anyway, I envy you Mark. Ugh.

YellowRose Friday, June 29th, 2007

How awesome is that!!! My hubby works in the aerospace industry,(F-22, Stealth Bomber, etc) and he's just slightly obsessed with planes...all kinds. He'd have loved that! He is actually wanting to get his pilots license so he can buy his own plane. I told you..he's obsessed! lol

A soft landing is always a good thing. I am never fond of landings due to a scary incidence. Just my luck. Everytime I hear Texas I shudder. :o)~

The smell was a mixture of burning aero fuel, some sort of cleaning fluid and something I can't really describe, in the same way that there is something indescribable to the smell of a steam train but in this case not steam train obviously...

That must have been a great experience! I've seen them quite often, as the Dutch Dakota Club is based on Schiphol, not too far away from here.
Thanks for visiting my random TT!

SlipOfAGirl Thursday, June 28th, 2007

"Can you tell me more about the smell," she said, half-afraid he would answer...

Happy TT!

Starrlight Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Great TT! That looks like so much fun.

JennieBoo Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Christine Thursday, June 28th, 2007

What a wonderful experience! It reminds me of the first time I went up in a helicopter and got to sit next to the pilot. The adrenaline rush was amazing!

Tilly Greene Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Hmmm, a unique smell? Hey, as long as it wasn't petrol like I bet it was all good!

New Years Day we flew from Heathrow to JFK on Concorde - yeah, it was Christmas all over again!

Congratulations on taking a such spectacular journey :-)

Shannon Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Awesome! It sounds like your flight was great! You can't ask for anything better than a soft landing. (that's what freaks me out the most about flying) Have a great weekend!

Nicholas Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Green with envy here!

Definitely cool! I've been in small planes before, but not that small. Maybe one day, I'll get to.

As for favorite TT, I'm not sure. I might ask the groupies to pick...

Wylie Kinson Thursday, June 28th, 2007

What an experience!! I'd say I'm jealous, but I'm a freak about flying... just reading your post had me reaching for the Valium :)

Toni Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Dewey Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

I'm pretty sure #9 and #14 are my favorites. ;)

Jerry Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

That would be a complete blast! I've flown commercially and in a few small commuter planes, but that beauty would be an experience worth a thousand words

Robin Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

How cool! I've got several generations of aviators in the family who I know would have jumped at the chance for a ride.
